Why are school supplies so cheap? I'm just curious, but why are the school supplies so cheap in the summer back to school sales? Doesn't Staples lose money if it sells its 8 pk pencils, pencil sharpeners, etc. at 1 cent? A lot of those things are made in China, but the same things sold in China isn't that cheap, plus there must be a transportation cost from China to US, and some government taxes. But, anyway, if the stores sell the school supplies at a cost, why would they do that?

Cool School Supplies? I have always gotten my daughter cheap school supplies; you know the 10 cents crayons and 7 cents folders... Well this year she goes to a new school--20 grand a year + laptop costs and school books. She is in 7th grade. What do school districts do with our money? Our school district seems to be very cheap. We have no heater and the air conditioner is on in the morning during the winter. Then, there's broken air conditioners in the spring/summer time. There's no parking space for kids with cars. There's no lockers for underclassmen.
